Since the reproduction dash bases are so poorly made it is worthwhile restoring original bases. I had special tooling made up to press new sockets in and roll the lip over so it has a factory appearance to it. Restoration can be as simple as pressing in a single new socket to a complete overhaul of the base including weld repairs for stripped threads/extra holes, cadmium plating and all new hardware. Here are some photos of typical bases before restoration and of a typically restored 47-58 base and 59-61 base. I also restore 62-67 style bases, I just haven't bothered to snap a shot of one yet.
Restoration prices (US$) are as follows:
No longer available. I had been using 68582-73 but that is now obsolete.
$20 - per socket installed
$50 - per NOS socket installed (NOS sockets have cloth covered wire)
$40 - cadmium plating of first dash base, $30 for each additional base
$17 - dash center stud kit
$10-20 (depending on year) - dash terminal
kit
$2 - light bulbs (each, either 6 or 12 volt available)
$1 - set of four screws and lock washers for ignition switch
$15 - three light shroud (71292-62)
$16 - return postage via insured airmail (extra bases a little more)
$quoted on sight - repairs to base
If the base requires repairs the turn around time will be 3 to 4 weeks.
Cadmium plating usually needs a week. Overnight service if I'm sent
a base already plated that simply needs the sockets, etc. installed.
If you have one or more bases you'd like to have restored email
me for shipping instructions.
