Don't get me wrong.  I think this is a terrific book.  It is THE reference for people restoring 1940's and 1950's Harleys.  However, there are a number of errors throughout the book.  The late Joe Barber once told me there was an error on every page.  I wouldn't go quite that far, but, at least from my perspective, the publisher is more interested in milking the hobbyist than they are in correcting the errors.  I know of three printings of this book,  Each time the price went up but I don't see a lot of errors corrected (to be fair I'm too cheap to buy the latest printing given that I already own two copies of the book).  The first printing had a cover price of $26.95 and was about 1 5/16 inches thick.  The second printing raised the cover price to $29.95 and reduced the thickness to 1 1/16 inches implying, to me at least, that they went with a cheaper paper to maximize profits once they realized they had a hit on their hands.  The third printing the cover price jumped to $39.95, again I believe with little in the way of corrections to warrant the increase.

I've compiled two lists of errors.  The vast majority of errors are simple typographical errors and reflect more on the commitment of the publisher to the project and the calibre of the staff assigned rather than on the author's effort. Far fewer are the factual errors.  No one can know everything and listing these errors should not be taken as a slam against the author.  He did an awesome job.
