1947 Harley-Davidson® speedometer light (4509-47, 71150-47)

This style speedometer light was only used on Harley's 1947 models. It clips into the upper dash cover to hold the bulb beside the repositioned light window in the 1947 only speedometer housing. It is a part that has heretofore been nearly impossible to find. I did a batch of 50 and more than half have been sold. If you need one you should probably act now. Below are four photos comparing my reproduction (on the left in all photos) with a very good original (on the right in all photos, thanks to Dan Henke for its loan). Click the thumbnails to see larger photos.

Following are a number of photos illustrating where and how the socket clips into the upper dash cover. The ears on the socket fit through the two notches in the cover. Apply pressure against the wave washer and rotate until the ears snap into their recesses. The cover used for the photos is an original 47 cover. Note how the inside was painted white to help reflect the light. Click the thumbnails to see larger photos.

The speedo shown in the above photos is probably the nicest original 1947 speedometer I've ever had the privilege of servicing. Wonderful old speedometer. Dash base shown is also an original 1947 base. The lower right photo is a sight not seen since 1947. 50 brand new 47 speedo light sockets in one place!

Price is USD $45 each delivered in North America and USD $48 each delivered to Europe, Japan and Australia. Choice of 6 or 12 volt bulb. Price break for buying 5 or 10. All components (sockets, wave washers, wire and terminals) made in the USA and then lovingly hand assembled by myself here in Canada. Everyone but myself has been paid a living wage. Doubt I'll break even on the batch. C'est la vie, that's the way it works out sometimes. Email me to order.
